We’re excited to share some incredible news: our organization has received a generous grant from the Michigan Health Endowment Fund to launch a vital new initiative: Improving Maternal Health Outcomes for Former Foster Youth.
Why is this so important?
Because by age 21, 1 in 4 young people who have experienced foster care become parents. Yet many of these young adults face the journey to parenthood without the safety net that others might take for granted—stable housing, health care access, a trusted support system, or even someone to call when questions arise. As a result, both mothers and babies are at a higher risk for complications and poor health outcomes.
We believe every young person deserves a healthy start to parenting—and every baby deserves the best possible beginning. This new program will help us make that a reality.
